The English Day emerges as an initiative of engaging students with a bilingual experience. The need of practicing a foreign language, immersed into a crosscurricular approach, requires a set of activities to foster students’ involvement. Accomplishing the purpose of the English day brings up several tasks which elicit not only language practice but a positive impact in terms of developing specific assignments to encourage students’ performance. Likewise the types of knowledge found in other subjects promote students’ awareness at the time of selecting and applying the most accurate strategy or procedure during the development of bilingual tasks.

Students will be able to go beyond their expectations through the language usage addressing a disposition to learning in terms of providing opportunities to practice and raising their awareness towards second language acquisition. The class atmosphere has been  transformed thanks to the development of different activities, like the English Day, that foster a critical approach to manage the intrinsic motivation of students and to adjust their learning strategies to overcome difficulties.

We, as English teachers, bear in mind one of the major challenges we face: the creation of effective learning environments as a fundamental goal to master several methods and techniques of teaching in order to enable them to thrive cognitively, socially, emotionally and civically. Being active members of the classroom and achieving high levels of performance contribute to address overall needs and interests.  Initiatives like the English Day should be the first step to promote pedagogical and pertinent practices for young people.

Thus, the participation in fruitful bilingual-related activities attempts to build up learning investment and a deeper understanding of the importance of English in the educational setting, the academic field and the personal growth. Raising the youth voice advocate students to play a more active role and to shape their perspective towards the identification of issues of educational importance that empower them to be ready for post high-school work. Policy makers and educators have a huge responsibility: we need to critically assess what we have done to contribute with students’ academic achievement and success in order to balance the process of teaching effectiveness for a life-long learning.

Least but not less, we want to express gratitude to our principal, William Manrique, for his valuable contribution and support for the accomplishment of this pedagogical and interdisciplinary project. Congratulations and thanks for all the teachers’ staff, management team and general service people who got involved with lively enthusiasm and commitment. Finally, we also want to felicitate our students for their personal effort, responsibility and participation. Without all of you this activity would not be possible.
